DSN on BBC Radio 5 Live!

26th November 2018

DSN recently contributed to a discussion about physician health on BBC Radio Five Live.  Australian gynaecologist, Prof. Steve Robson and Dr. Kate Tree were interviewed about a recent article about his experience of attempting suicide as a junior doctor.  Dr Laura McGregor, a UK consultant in emergency medicine then spoke about her own experience of PTSD while working for the air ambulance service.

DSN AGM & conference 2018

10th November 2018

DSN held its AGM and conference in Edinburgh on 10th November.  We enjoyed talks about the proposed Scottish physician health network, neurodiversity in doctors and equine facilitated psychotherapy.

International Practitioner Health Summit 2018 - The Wounded Healer

DSN had a (free) stand at the International Practitioner Health Summit 2018: The Wounded Healer in October.  Dr Louise Freeman, DSN co-chair, presented about our &me anti stigma campaign at the conference after Prof. Mike Myers' excellent talk about physician suicide.  Watch Louise's presentation by selecting the video link on the right.

Doctors' Mental Health at Tipping Point - DSN in a BBC TV film

3rd September 2018

DSN was recently honoured to contribute to the making of a short BBC film followed by a studio panel discussion on the topic of physician suicide in the UK.  Dr. Louise Freeman spoke about her own experience of mental ill health in the 15 minute film and Dr. Angelika Luehrs took part in a studio discussion on the BBC2 Victoria Derbyshire programme.  Read the BBC website article here.

Surgery & Emotion - Operating with Feeling workshop

1st June 2018

DSN attended the 'Operating with Feeling' workshop organised by the Surgery & Emotion project, to which we had previously contributed.  It was a great opportunity to meet surgeons interested in physician health; in particular Simon Fleming of the #HammerItOut anti bullying campaign in orthopaedics and Alice Hartley, chair of the RCSEd's anti bullying campaign #LetsRemoveIt.

British Small Animal Veterinary Association (BSAVA) congress - &me LIVE

7th April 2018

Co-chairs of DSN, Dr. Angelika Luehrs and Dr. Louise Freeman took part in our first '&me LIVE' with the RCVS's Mind Matters campaign at the annual BSAVA congress in Birmingham.  Despite being at 08.30am, the event was very well attended and there was a lively discussion after our short talks.

Royal College of Veterinary Surgeons Presidential Reception

7th March 2018

Dr Louise Freeman, DSN co-chair, was invited to the RCVS 2018 President's Reception.  DSN has an ongoing anti stigma campaign #AndMe with RCVS around reducing the stigma of mental ill health in the healthcare professions.  The photo shows Louise (left) and Lizzie Lockett, CEO of the RCVS.

GMC conference: Together

6th March 2018

DSN had a stand at the 2018 GMC conference 'Together' held in London in March.  Jackie and Louise were busy meeting delegates from health organisations all over the UK as well as attending sessions including Hannah Fry on using data around human behaviour and workshops on changing fitness to practise and supporting doctors' mental health and wellbeing.
